Online Diesel Tech Degrees, Programs and Courses
Diesel powered equipment are still much more efficient and durable than gasoline powered engines, and that is why they are still the standard in trucks, buses, and heavy duty construction equipments. Diesel engines operate differently from most vehicles and requires a specialized form of training which can be gained from taking an online Diesel Technician degree.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of Diesel Technicians are expected to increase by 6 percent between 2008 and 2018. Diesel technicians are expected to handle all kinds of repairs ranging from a vehicle’s electrical system to major engine repairs. Diesel maintenance is also becoming more complex, as more electronic components are used to control the operation of engines.
An online Diesel Technicians degree will prepare a student to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain diesel engines in vehicles, stationary diesel engines in electrical generators and other diesel powered equipment. Some of the courses may include the following:
- Introduction to Diesel technology
- Engine Principles and Components
- Diesel Electronics & Diagnosis
- Diesel Engine Maintenance and Repair
- Truck Brakes and Chassis
- Diesel Fuel Systems
Depending on the school, Diesel Technicians courses usually take between six to twelve months.
