Online Programming & Development Degrees, Programs and Courses
Going back to school online for a programming degree is an option that an adult learner may consider. Online degrees are not necessarily less work than their more traditional counterparts. Often, getting an online degree involves more work on the part of the student than a traditional degree would.
A person who wants to become a computer programmer should have strong puzzle solving and logic skills. The current environment requires a basic familiarity with web scripting language such as PHP, Java Script, and ASP. Most online schools and traditional universities will include courses in languages such as BASIC, Pascal and C as well to give the user an idea of what structured programming requires.
An online programming degree may require a student to pick up the compilers and debuggers that he currently does not have, although these may be included in the cost of tuition. Programming degrees, unlike other degrees, are not necessarily looked down upon because a potential employee earned his or her degree online. In fact, it shows extra initiative and familiarity with the computer technology that an employer wants a job candidate to have. Even traditional universities now offer degrees that a student can earn solely over the Internet.
