Online Health & Medical Degrees, Programs and Courses
Online degrees, particularly in the areas of medical transcription, nursing and pharmacy technology, provide flexibility to study at a slower pace than traditional college degree programs. This option is perfect for individuals who are short on time due to work and family responsibilities.
Medical Transcription
Online medical transcription degrees are available through community colleges or transcription schools. Course materials include over 1,000 hours of physician-dictated medical reports, medical reference books, computer transcribing software and a foot pedal. Some programs even offer review courses for the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) exam, which is administered through the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI).
Pharmacy Technician
Online pharmacy technician training is usually offered as a nine to 12-month program through a community college or trade school. Courses are either mailed or completed online and include such topics as pharmacology terminology, drug interactions, drug emergencies, pharmaceutical calculations and customer service skills.
Nursing
Students can earn an online associate’s degree in nursing to obtain their RN license. All coursework is taught through a password-protected website where instructors post assignments, and the assignments are then emailed back to the instructor with any questions. The clinical portion of the program is completed at a hospital that is located near the student.
